Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he would be tempted by the England role. Any exit could well be catastrophic for the club and would be tough to recover from.

Arsenal are quickly steaming towards a major decision that could well shape the club for many years to come. Whether you like it or not,  Arsene Wenger is set to leave in the coming years. Like Sir Alex Ferguson before him, Wenger cannot go on forever, and at some point, he will leave, whether by his or the club’s choosing, and Arsenal will be entering a crucial time of uncertainty in which the future of the club will be at stake.

That decision may well come sooner rather than later with the England FA on the lookout for a new manager of the national side. One name that has continued to peak interest and intrigue is Wenger’s, and while it would be a surprising move, Wenger himself seems receptive to undertaking such a high pressure role.

When asked about the role, Wenger stated:

"“Could I manage England?‚Why not? I would never rule that out, but I am happy and focused in club football. I have one more year to go with Arsenal and I have been with them for a long time. I have always respected all my contracts and will continue to do that. What will I do after that? Honestly, I don’t know.”"

The England job clearly has some attractive qualities. The very prospect of success would be tempting for Wenger. He woudld be placed on a pedestal above perhaps any other manager in history, if he were to take England to major success to the side.

However, while it may be a tempting offer for Wenger, it could well be a travesty for the club that he would be leaving behind. Due to the longevity of his reign, Arsenal are built around Wenger. His philosophies, his ideals are heavily ingrained into the club. Down to every detail Wenger had a key part to play.

Take someone of such importance out, and all of a sudden, you have an organization following a philosophy without any philosopher. Arsenal would be leaderless and lost, wandering in no mans land while other Premier League sides continued to move forward and improve.

Certainly the possibility of Wenger becoming the England manager is a peculiar one – I certainly would have guessed at such a future – however, it could well bring some great problems that Arsenal will have to solve. If they can’t catastrophe could well be the result.
