Reports are stating that Real Madrid are interested in signing Newcastle star Moussa Sissoko. Arsenal would be wise to let them have the Euro 2016 star.

One of the worrying aspects of the modern day transfer window is the sheer amount of nonsense rumors that fans have to sift through in an effort to find the genuine reports of comings and goings at the club.

Most often, the validity of reports can be verified by the growing or diminishing nature of them. For example, last summer Arsenal were consistently linked with Petr Cech, and at first, I, like many others, disregarded such rumors as mere fantasy.

However, the reports grew, the coverage the deal garnered increased and ultimately, Arsenal did indeed complete the move. This summer, one deal that is becoming more and more likely, and equally worrying, is the addition of Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko. While I am not for one second saying that Arsenal will sign Sissoko this summer, I am merely pointing in the rumors of such a deal.

The latest reports, however, suggest that Real Madrid are also interested in Sissoko and Arsenal would undoubtedly be wise to use this as a way to slip out of the race to sign the hustling, bustling midfielder.

In the European Championships, it must be said that Sissoko was utterly fantastic for France. The best player on the park in the final – although all his efforts were to no avail – Sissoko showcased his ability on the biggest stage. However, he has very rarely been doubted on sheer ability. Even his performances at Newcastle have displayed, at times, a talent worthy of top European side.

The question mark hanging over his game was consistency. He had a tendency to drift through games without ever having an impact. He often showed a lack of fight and desire, and very rarely undertook a position of leadership on the pitch. He comes across as a mercenary, not the type of player that Arsenal should be interested in.

Consequently, if there is genuine interest there from Arsenal – and I believe there is, though the £35 million price tag is a major stumbling block – then Real Madrid would be doing a wonderful thing if they swooped in and signed him.
