Shkodran Mustafi had a brief injury scare with the German national side on Wednesday night, sending Arsenal fans into meltdown with yet more fitness issues.

The international break for many seasons has often been the bane of many an Arsenal’s fan life. With players leaving the confounds of the Emirates to return in a more damaged way than when they left, the Gunners have had to endure a multitude of injuries to various players while with their national sides.

It has escalated to a point where it is a surprise when, after an international break, all of Arsenal’s stars return without any fitness issues. Such problems were once again highlighted after new signing Shkodran Mustafi suffered what looked like a painful ankle injury when Germany played Finland on Wednesday night.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Mustafi did return to play and was able to complete the game, but with the infamous history of injuries and international breaks, no one can hardly blame fans for entering a realm of craziness after hearing such frightfully worrying news with their latest £35 million hero injured just a day after signing.

While the issue looks to be nothing serious, it does, once again, bring to light the issues that have plagued the squad for a great number of years. Simply, there are too many injuries for it just to be bad luck. While Wenger can clearly not be blamed for the Mustafi scare on Wednesday, such issues are only highlighted with such a scare.

It brings up many questions that should be asked about  Arsene Wenger and his training methods. Does Wenger overwork his players in training so much so that they wear down over the season as a whole before breaking at one crucial point in the season, whether this be with the club or on international break?

Certainly history tells us that it is a fair question to ask, and many associate a club’s success with injuries as nothing more than a case of good or bad luck, there is clearly an underlying issue at the Emirates that needs addressing.

There’s no way a club with the injury history of Arsenal’s simply has bad luck. While it may seem that way, there must be a deeper problem. Identifying what that is, though, is no easy task, so much so that even new signings are seemingly cursed by potential injuries.
