Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez Buy Out Clause Is Inconsequential
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal may reportedly have to give Alexis Sanchez a buy-out clause in his contract, but this means very little in the long run.
With the transfer window closed and the long road to January ahead, Arsenal has a brand new priority – locking down their superstars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. With Wenger’s show of ambition this summer in landing a handful of brand new stars that are ready to take England by storm, the German and the Chilean should have no problems locking in.

Reports are indicating that the process is moving forward with both superstars.
Shkodran Mustafi’s arrival should give the Gunners a boost in pushing Ozil to lock himself in at the club that he keeps asserting his love for. Ozil has a massive following in North London, has his own hashtag and has even vowed to alter his body language so the fans can see his effort better. Hard to see someone like that not wanting to extend.
It’s Alexis that has not been as wholly contented. He had a storming off the pitch incident last year just a couple of months after accusing his team mates of lacking hunger. Hard to argue with him, but still, not exactly inspirational when it comes to long term prospectus.
As such, it looks like Alexis may be the problem child when it comes to signing a new contract. As in, he may request a flat-rate buy-out clause to go along with what are sure to be some nice new wages.
According to the Mirror, Alexis wants this get-out-of-jail free card just in case proper ambition is not shown. It may seem like such a proposal could lead to a stall in the contract talks, as Wenger isn’t exactly keen on such clauses, but honestly, it’s best to just give it to him.

I love Alexis as much as the next supporter and seeing him rampage up and down the pitch is inspiring to see. But the main objective here is locking him in and getting him a new contract. Do that and worry about the rest later. He wants to see Arseanl win, so long as he can do that, that buy-out clause will be inconsequential.
Even if Arsenal flails and can’t win and the buy-out clause is enacted, so what? Mesut Ozil is the man who makes this offense click. Alexis has proven that he cannot do it on his own. I by no means want to see the Chilean move on, but if he wants to seek greener pastures somewhere else, so be it. Wenger loves creative attacking players and would happily replace him with a new star.

Get him a contract and win the league. Then the buy-out will be pointless. He wants to be here, he’s said that. Otherwise he would have pushed for an exit already. If he wants an easier way to get out in the event of a failure, fine. Because if Arsenal keep failing then clearly they need major changes anyway.
