Arsenal’s treatment of Alexandre Lacazette can be described with any negative word of your choice. But it doesn’t effect just him. It’s so much bigger than that.

I’ve gone over the brief recap of Arsene Wenger‘s bizarre and embarrassing decision making against Manchester City enough already, so let’s just jump into the part where I talk about how negatively this impacts Arsenal overall.

It’s bizarre enough that Lacazette was left out against Liverpool. This is a record signing, he was bought to be the big man on campus, and he’s being denied that opportunity, for what I assume to be Wenger’s bizarre sense of over-protection.

But to do it again? And against another rival club? Alexandre Lacazette wasn’t bought to beat Crystal Palace. He was bought to beat the big boys. What if Chelsea benched Alvaro Morata against us? We’d have splitting laughter over it.

This is obviously 100% about Lacazette and how he must be feeling about this awful treatment. There’s nothing else he can do to prove himself and yet I doubt this is all said and done, because I thought it would have been after Liverpool.

Going beyond Lacazette though, this has to do with the future. Think about it from the perspective of a player who would like to come to Arsenal and be a big time difference maker. How do they see this? Here’s this big time difference maker being pushed aside so that want-away divas can have another shot at a position they already failed at.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That isn’t appealing. And while it is an isolated case, as Sead Kolasinac has not been give the same treatment, it is a massive case, and the only one that needs to be seen because of the premise of the situation.

In a sense, sitting Sead Kolasinac would be less bamboozling (although still asinine) because at least he was free. Lacazette cost the club £50m and he isn’t being treated right. Pulled out before the 80th minute all the time, sat in big fixtures.

It shows prospective players that inexplicably being sat isn’t off the table, and it’s an unseen force they may have to contend with should they make the move to the Emirates. I’d like to think this isn’t the case, and that I’m just overreacting, but I don’t see it that way. I worry about this greatly.

Especially people that Lacazette may be “helping” us land, such as Antoine Griezmann or Nabil Fekir. But maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. It doesn’t look good and I’ll leave it at that.
