Arsenal has just made an exciting acquisition in the form of Canada and former Liverpool star, Olivia Smith. Olivia says it's her dream to represent Arsenal.
There is still a fair bit of time before the 2025-26 Women's Super League gets underway, with many Arsenal stars currently competing at the UEFA Women's Euros. The WSL will return in early September, and the Gunners are keen to advance from last season, when they finished second.
The WSL aside, Arsenal ended up having a phenomenal season. Against all odds (especially during that Real Madrid deficit), the Gunners fought back and won the Women's Champions League for the second time.
Arsenal signs Olivia Smith from Liverpool
Before the new season commences, Arsenal announced the signing of Olivia Smith this morning. The Canadian international joins Arsenal from Liverpool, where she won both the Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year last season.
Olivia Smith will now represent Arsenal, as the deal is fully finalised and confirmed. In a statement, Arsenal said Smith would join on an undisclosed fee, but a long-term contract.
Arsenal fans know they have a serious star on their hands. Liverpool's loss is Arsenal's gain here, as we just added some blistering pace and transitional play ability to our game.
Smith is a versatile forward who can essentially play in any attacking position. She's incredibly intelligent with or without the ball, so her teammates will often find her in pockets of space.
Olivia Smith can't wait to play for Arsenal
While respecting Liverpool for granting her a route to English football, Olivia Smith is now ready and excited for the next step up.
In her own words, Olivia Smith said: “It’s a privilege and an honour to sign for Arsenal. It’s my dream to compete for the biggest titles here in England and in Europe and I’m excited to get started and contribute to doing that here with Arsenal. The atmosphere the supporters create at Emirates Stadium is incredible and I can’t wait to have that behind me now.”
Olivia will join Arsenal when the spirits are at an all-time high. By the sound of it, she has already bought into the hunger that the rest of the squad has to go out and win the Champions League all over again.
