Well, that's that. Arsenal were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle, ending with a 4-0 aggregate score.
Alexander Isak thought he'd given the hosts a lead early on but VAR came to the rescue for the Gunners, deeming the Swede to have strayed offside by the finest of margins. He made sure to be involved again, though, striking the post with a powerful effort that landed kindly for Jacob Murphy to tap into an empty net.
If their spot in the final wasn't already secure, Anthony Gordon made sure of it in the second half, scoring after a David Raya mistake.
Amid a performamce that warranted the result (or maybe worse!), there were a number of positives and negatives for Arsenal to take from a dismal defeat on Tyneside.
Positive #1: Some bright moments

While it was mostly a dreadful performance for Arsenal, there were a few bright moments throughout the game.
Martin Odegaard had some involvement in his side's better moments, mostly in the first half, but the brightest spark was arguably left back Myles Lewis-Skelly. The youngster battled well down the left side and played a really good defence-splitting pass for Kai Havertz late in the second 45.
Of course, the Gunners were far from being a threat against Newcastle, but there were a limited number of bright moments.

Negative #1: Defensive sloppiness

Arsenal have evolved into one of the best defensive sides in Europe in recent years, but that team was nowhere to be seen against Newcastle. The Gunners were sloppy at the back and played a number of loose passes that put them under serious pressure.
William Saliba put in arguably his worst performance in an Arsenal shirt, making a number of rash decisions on the ball and almost playing his team into trouble. His partner Gabriel Magalhaes was not much better with both struggling to deal with the threat of the Magpies' attack.
A costly second half mistake from David Raya summed up the Gunners' defensive performance. The Spaniard attempted a pass to an under pressure Declan Rice who was immediately challenged by Fabian Schar before the ball fell kindly for Anthony Gordon to slot home.
