Arsenal ‘receive’ bids for Van Persie
By Tom Humphrey
Arsenal have reportedly received offers for captain Robin Van Persie since he announced that he will not be extending his stay at the club beyond the expiration of his current contract.
Arsenal are in an awkward position with the player having just one year left on his deal, meaning he can walk away for nothing next summer. It was believed that Arsene Wenger wanted him to go on the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, but it has been reported that Arsenal are keen to settle the situation as soon as possible and avoid a situation like last year’s when Samir Nasri went on tour with Arsenal and even played in the Premier League for them before moving on to Manchester City.
Van Persie was all smiles at the training ground in front of the cameras for the official website, but it is believed that he has told Arsene Wenger he still isn’t interested in signing a new deal and is encouraging a sale this summer. Italian champions Juventus, English champions Manchester City and their rivals Manchester United all have an interest in the Dutchman. A sale to Juventus would suit Arsenal more, as they wouldn’t play Van Persie every year, unlike if he joined either Manchester side.
One thing we know is, the tour starts soon. If he’s there, we’re doing his new club’s job for them by giving him pre-season games. If he’s not there, the writing is on the wall for him and the club will have to sell him immediately. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no point keeping him for a year and losing him for nothing. I don’t want players at my club that don’t want to be there. I especially don’t want them to be CAPTAIN of my team. Just get rid of him. The sooner, the better.
