Miyaichi to Ajax on loan?
By Tom Humphrey
According to De Telegraaf in Holland, Ajax are interested in taking Arsenal’s Japanese youngster Ryo Miyaichi on a loan deal. Ryo has experience in Dutch football, having spent half a season on loan at Feyenoord in the 2010/11 campaign. Having made a couple of appearances in the Arsenal first-team last season in the League Cup, Miyaichi joined Bolton in January 2012 for the rest of the 2011/12 season. He scored once for Bolton, in an FA Cup tie at Millwall. He impressed the Bolton fans during his time at the club and won the Player of the Month award for February. His pace was one thing I noticed during his time there and he certainly impressed me whilst he was at Bolton.
If he does go to Ajax he will certainly get more playing time there than he will next season at Arsenal. Ajax are also in the Champions League next year, so a loan move there would give him much needed experience of playing Champions League football. He will also benefit from learning from Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp who is assisting Frank de Boer at Ajax, de Boer being another legend that he can learn from. It is believed that Dennis Bergkamp and another former Arsenal and Ajax star Marc Overmars used their contacts with Wenger to convince him on this. It is believed he is unsure as he sees Miyaichi as somebody that could contribute to the Arsenal first-team this year, but he is “not unwilling” to allow such a move either.
All I can really say is to watch this space. It’s a deal that could well happen, we’ll just have to wait and see. It would definitely benefit him to get some Champions League football under his belt, play regularly in a good, competitive league and to be coached by legends such as Bergkamp and de Boer.
