Wenger hints at late signings as Arsenal appear to lose out on Sahin

Arsene Wenger has told the Arsenal website that he is likely to sign players before next Friday’s transfer deadline.
Wenger said the following in an interview with Arsenal Player:
"“Some things can still happen, I don’t want make a promise that I cannot keep. It does not only depend on me. But there still could be some action on the transfer market – ins and outs.We are working [in the market]. We’ll see what we can do.The transfer market is open for two months and yet for one month and three weeks it is nearly closed. It wakes up completely in the last week and then every minute becomes important.Everybody has played for time for seven or eight weeks and now suddenly everyone is in a hurry. And that is when the most intense activity happens.” – Arsene Wenger on transfers."
One player that the Gunners appear to have missed out on is Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin. The Turkish midfielder looks set to join Liverpool on a season-long loan deal after manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed it was close after their 1-0 win at Hearts in a Europa League qualifier. He also said that he was hoping to get it completed by the end of Friday, so if that is going to happen, expect it to happen today. From what I’ve heard, Real Madrid asked too much in terms of a loan fee for Sahin, a fee that Liverpool were willing to pay and Arsenal were not, so that is the reason why he is going to Liverpool it seems.
