Transfer Deadline Day today – Park Chu-Young, Bendtner out on loan, Essien in on loan?
By Tom Humphrey
Today is the final day of the summer transfer window in England with the deadline at 11pm UK time. Deadline day is always busy and last year it was in particular, with Park Chu-Young, Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta all joining the Gunners on the final day of the window.
Arsene Wenger insists that he is looking to sign players before the end of the window, but only if the right player comes along. The biggest name being linked with a move into the club is Chelsea’s Michael Essien on a season-long loan deal. Whether this happens or not remains to be seen. Of course there could be nobody coming in or there could be more than expected. That’s deadline day for you. Last year there was a time where Arteta and Benayoun’s deals were both off, but they got done eventually.
In terms of outgoings, Park Chu-Young, who only joined us on deadline day last year is set for a season-long loan at Celta Vigo after barely playing last season. Nicklas Bendtner, who left on loan to Sunderland last deadline day, is set to join Juventus on what is believed to be a season-long loan again. That is all that has been said so far, but with plenty of time left on deadline day, there is plenty of business that could be done between now and then.
