Gunners on international duty
By Tom Humphrey
Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Both players started in England’s 5-0 win over minnows San Marino on Friday night. Walcott was replaced after 10 minutes after picking up an injury, but Oxlade-Chamberlain managed to score his first goal for England, scoring the last England goal on the night. Chamberlain’s goal means he has now matched his father Mark’s record of 1 goal in 8 appearances for his country. The difference is, there are many more caps and hopefully goals to come for Alex. It also means that the two Chamberlain’s are the first father-son combination to both score for England.
Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first England goal.
Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski: Mertesacker played the full 90 minutes and Podolski came on as a 66th minute substitute as Germany cruised to a 6-1 win over Ireland in Dublin.
Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny: Both Giroud and Koscielny played the full 90 minutes as France lost 1-0 in a friendly against Japan.
Santi Cazorla: Cazorla started Spain’s comfortable 4-0 win over Belarus in Minsk on Friday.
Thomas Vermaelen: Belgium recorded an impressive 3-0 win away to Serbia on Friday and Vermaelen was part of the defence that kept a clean sheet. He played the full 90 minutes.
Johan Djourou: Djourou started in Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Norway. The Swiss were denied victory late on as Fulham’s Brede Hangeland equalised for Norway.
Aaron Ramsey: Ramsey played the full 90 minutes in his country’s 2-1 win over Scotland. Wales came from behind to beat the Scots and Ramsey was booked 60 minutes into the game.
