Wenger chases Auxerre youngster
By Tom Humphrey
Arsene Wenger has a history of buying players from France. He also has a history of buying young players. Finally, he has made a habit of signing players for cheap transfer fees.
The latest transfer rumour screams classic Wenger. It combines all of those in one rumour. Arsenal are being linked to French youngster Yaya Sanogo, who currently plays for Ligue 2 club Auxerre. Sanogo has a bad injury record but will be available on a free in the summer. Having returned from the injury record his goalscoring record has been superb, something that has attracted the interest of Wenger.
Reports in France suggest that Wenger has travelled to Paris with his scout and former player Gilles Grimandi to meet Sanogo and his agent. The youngster is free to talk to clubs outside of France in the final 6 months of his contract, hence why the rumours have come out about Wenger flying over to talk with him.
French club Lille are reportedly interested in him too, but cannot talk to him until his contract expires.
Reports in France claim Arsenal in interested in taking Sanogo for free in the summer.
