Djourou happy at Hannover

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou is reportedly happy at loan club Hannover and is believed to be interested in a permanent move to Germany in the summer.

Djourou fell out of favour at the Emirates and joined the German club on loan until the end of the season back in January. Having been there just a few months and having become a regular in their starting line-up, he is believed to have started discussing his future last week.

Djourou’s agent told the German media the following last week:

"“Johan and his family are very happy being at Hannover 96. The project very much fits the bill for Johan. We will have a first round of talks with Jorg Schmadtke on his future situation in the next couple of days“We would like to have a good decision by the end of May.” – Marco Lichtsteiner on his client’s future"

I believe a move will suit both parties. Djourou was in great form for much of the 2010/11 campaign and like many in the team he lost form after Arsenal lost the 2011 League Cup Final to Birmingham, a game that Djourou started. Since then he gradually fell down the pecking order at the club and with the return of Thomas Vermaelen from an injury he had that year as well as the arrival of Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen that summer, it wasn’t long before Djourou was out of favour completely.

He made just 2 appearances in the first-team this season before his loan move in January. Whilst he is contracted at the club until 2015, I can’t imagine the Gunners will ask Hannover for a lot of money to take him off their wage bill. He is wanted by Hannover it seems and he is happy to be there. I’d be surprised if there were any problems with this deal. Djourou could be one of many players that the club no longer need that will leave in the summer.

Johan Djourou is hoping to make his loan deal at Hannover a permanent one in the summer.
