Arsenal linked with Kalou

Arsenal are today being linked with a move for former Chelsea player Salomon Kalou. Kalou, 27, now plays in France with Lille, but he has stated his interest in a move back to the Premier League.

Kalou was quoted as saying:

"“I’d love to go back to England. I spent six seasons there and I am crazy about the Premier League.“Players’ careers change so quickly. You never know what will happen tomorrow.” – Salomon Kalou on a potential move back to the Premier League."

Kalou is one of those names that has often been linked with Arsenal. His impressive goal record at Feyenoord attracted Arsene Wenger’s attention, but like many other players at the time, he was lured to Stamford Bridge as Roman Abramovich willingly spent millions and millions of pounds on players. Kalou was also linked with Arsenal heavily in the summer of 2009 and again last summer when he left Stamford Bridge.

Kalou wasn’t always first choice at Chelsea, but he was a good player to have around in rotation. His career there lasted 6 years and he left Chelsea last summer after his contract expired, despite starting both the FA Cup and the Champions League Final in 2012.

He moved to Lille on a free transfer last summer, but it is believed that he has not had the best of times over in France.

Personally I don’t think we will sign Kalou. Why?. He’s just one of those names that the media throw around and make the obvious link to Arsenal when they have nothing better to write. I was certain we would sign him in 2009 when the media said he was going to join the club on the same day as Patrick Vieira. Vieira never made that fairytale return and Kalou didn’t arrive at the club either.

Also, if Wenger was really that interested in Kalou, wouldn’t he have signed him when he was available on a free last summer?. Would seem a little strange to me, but stranger things have happened I guess. Just because Kalou has said he is willing to come back to England, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Arsenal will sign him.

Salomon Kalou is one of those names that would have signed for Arsenal a million times by now if the newspapers were right all the time.
