Real Betis interested in Arsenal duo – Partnership between two clubs?
By Tom Humphrey
Real Betis are reportedly interested in two of Arsenal’s flops this summer. The Gunners have a lot of deadwood that they are willing to get rid of in the summer and Betis are keen on Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou, both currently out on loan.
Chamakh is currently on loan at West Ham until the end of the season, but he has struggled to get games at Upton Park since Andy Carroll returned from injury. The Moroccan arrived in London on a free from Bordeaux in 2010 and made a bright start at the club before losing form, something he never regained.

Djourou is currently on loan at Hannover in Germany and has been a regular since making the loan move in January. There is a possibility that he could stay with Hannover and Djourou has discussed the possibility of a permanent move there with the club.
If those two were to leave the club it would take a lot of money off of the club’s wage bill as those two are players that do not play for the club often, but are on high wages from when they were first-team regulars.
There are a number of players at the club in a similar situation. Andre Santos, Denilson, Nicklas Bendtner and Park Chu-Young are all currently out on loan but Arsenal will look to offload them this summer. Backup goalkeeper Vito Mannone is another name that Wenger is keen to get rid of if possible, whilst Andrei Arshavin and Sebastian Squillaci will leave on a free in the summer. All of those players listed will be on high wages, yet none of them play for the club, or make rare appearances in the League Cup. It’s no wonder the club has struggled to win trophies when you have players like that on your wage bill taking lots of money from you. Manuel Almunia is another name that was the same. These players get rewarded with high wages and then get dropped. Once they’re dropped, their only interest is their pay cheque and they’d rather sit around doing nothing than move on with their careers. You can hardly blame them for that either.
Arsenal are reportedly set to sign a partnership with Real Betis too. I read online earlier in the month that Arsenal and Betis are keen on a partnership that would see Arsenal send out their youngsters to Betis to gain valuable first-team experience. Joel Campbell is currently on loan at the Spanish club and there are rumours floating around that they will try to extend that deal for another season.
Youngsters Ryo Miyaichi, Thomas Eisfeld and Serge Gnabry are names that have been linked with Betis should a partnership be agreed between the two clubs. I haven’t seen anything official regarding a link between the two, but I believe that both parties are certainly interested.
