Wenger keen to give Podolski another chance as central striker

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that Lukas Podolski is likely to start as a central striker against QPR this weekend. The German international has spent most of his time on the left of a three-man attack since joining from FC Cologne last summer, but with Olivier Giroud out for two more games, Podolski will get another chance after an unimpressive display against Manchester United last weekend.
The only other time Podolski has started in that role was on the first day of the season at home to Sunderland. Asked whether he feels the German can be effective through the middle, Wenger said the following in an interview on Arsenal Player:
"“It believe so, he has the qualities because he is a good finisher. He has a good technique and because we have a game based on very quick combinations I believe he can be a part of that. Overall I am convinced in the coming games he will show it.”"
The Frenchman went on to say more when asked whether Podolski would continue in the same role in the coming games. He continued:
"“At the moment, yes [I will play Podolski in the middle]. A definite decision has not been made but if there is an opportunity then there is a good chance I will do it.” – Arsene Wenger on Lukas Podolski. Quotes: Arsenal.com"
