Arsenal have today confirmed that Andrei Arshavin, Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci will all leave the club this summer. Both Arshavin and Squillaci’s contracts are expiring this summer and Denilson’s contract was mutually terminated a year early.

Arshavin joined the club in February 2009 from Zenit St Petersburg, scoring 31 times in 144 appearances for the club. He made a bright start to life at Arsenal, he will always be remembered for his 4 goals in a 4-4 draw at Anfield in 2009. He scored the winner at Anfield the following season and scored another famous goal against Barcelona in 2011. He was once a key player at the club, but over the past couple of years he has fallen down the pecking order.

Squillaci joined Arsenal in August 2010 from Sevilla and was a regular in his first season with the club, making 32 appearances in 2010/11, before his play time decreased due to the arrival of Per Mertesacker the following summer.

Denilson joined the club in August 2006, but has spent the past two years on loan at Sao Paulo due to the fact he fell out of favour at the club.

It’s a shame to see Arshavin lose his way. He was a real top class talent when he joined the club, but it slowly went downhill with him. Squillaci had a decent start to life at the club, but after one season it was clear that he wouldn’t be a regular any longer. Denilson had his moments, but much like Arshavin he was a very lazy player and that caught up with him eventually.
