Fellaini latest linked with move to Arsenal

Marouane Fellaini is the latest big name player to be linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. The reports come after betting companies shortened the odds of the Belgian international coming to Arsenal after taking many bets on the potential deal.
Reports came out this morning that Arsenal triggered Fellaini’s release clause in his Everton contract which is rumoured to be around £22-24m. Whilst nothing has been confirmed, there is definitely interest from the club in Fellaini.
Everton’s chairman Bill Kenwright is confident that both Fellaini and Leighton Baines will stay at Goodison Park this summer, but if the release clause in Fellaini’s contract is met, there is nothing Everton can do to stop Fellaini from talking to a club that triggers it.
Kenwright claimed that Fellaini had given him every indication that he wanted to stay at Everton, but should a big club like Arsenal or Manchester United come in for Fellaini, with the offer of high wages as well as Champions League football, it is difficult to see him turning that down.
Arsenal’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis has claimed that Arsenal are ready to spend big this summer and could afford to pay somebody such as Wayne Rooney, another reported target, the wages of £200-250k a week that he’d need for a move to the Emirates to even be considered.
The hope is there for Arsenal fans with all the rumours coming out about signings. Just because they cost a lot, does not mean you have to sign them. But if Arsenal were to sign somebody of Fellaini’s ability or Rooney, it would be a huge statement from the club that they are ambitious and actually want to win trophies, not settle for Champions League qualification every season.
