Could Cesc Fabregas return to England, but not with Arsenal?
By Tom Humphrey
Manchester United have today offered Barcelona £25m for former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. The Gunners have first refusal on Fabregas for the same price, but whether Barcelona are willing to sell Fabregas to United and whether or not £25m is an acceptable offer to them, it remains to be seen.
The Spaniard rejoined Barcelona in the summer of 2011 after 8 years at Arsenal, but has been in and out of the squad at Barcelona and both Andres Iniesta and Xavi are often preferred to Fabregas in the midfield.
Whilst United are certainly keen on signing Cesc, it is unclear whether he would make the switch to Old Trafford. I think with Arsenal having the first refusal to his services, the Emirates isn’t an unlikely destination for him in the future.
I would be surprised to see him play for another English club and he has been quoted as saying something about Arsenal being the only Premier League side that he would play for.
Time will tell, but there would be a lot of upset Arsenal fans if both Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas were lining up against the club in a Manchester United shirt next season.
