Flamini in talks over Arsenal return

Mathieu Flamini is in talks with Arsenal over the possibility of a move back to the club. The French midfielder is a free agent after his contract at AC Milan expired this summer and he has trained with the club in recent weeks in a bid to get his fitness levels up.

Flamini can play the defensive midfield role as well as the left-back position too. Arsenal have been in need in those positions due to injuries to key players.

Although it was a shame when Flamini left for AC Milan in 2008, he would fill a need for us right now. Whilst I’d rather we went out and bought quality players rather than our former players who cannot find other clubs now, I think re-signing Flamini would be a good signing. I’m hopeful that the club will add more players to go along with Flamini, should that deal happen.

Mathieu Flamini is in talks over a potential move back to Arsenal. The midfielder is currently a free agent.

Flamini is a low risk, potentially high reward signing. So far, Arsenal have signed Yaya Sanogo, who falls into the same category, but for different reasons. Flamini knows the club, so settling in won’t be an issue. He’d cost nothing, won’t ask for huge wages and would be happy to sign back at Arsenal. Sanogo is young, inexperienced and could develop into a great player one day. Those two certainly aren’t enough for the club this summer.

Real Madrid pair Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzema have been linked to the club in the media too. We’ve heard a lot of rumours this summer, so it’s best to be pessimistic. Wenger insists it will be busy in terms of signings coming into the club between now and the deadline. He also says that they are keen to join the club. Let’s hope he is right on this one. We’ll have to wait and see.

I would say a Flamini return is pretty likely, but given how this transfer window has gone, you never know with Arsenal. It’s hardly a surprise that Wenger would bring him back – a free transfer and knows the club… right up Wenger’s street. Arsenal fans will need more than the return of Flamini to make them happy with the summer transfer business though…
