Premier League Predictions: 18th

So Burnley and Southampton were my first two picks for finishing in the Premier League relegation zone, so who will join them in the trip back down to the Championship?

TeamHull

Manager: Steve Bruce

I will get this out of the way now, I am not Steve Bruce’s biggest fan. I thought Hull were going to crash and burn last season but he really turned it around and almost ended up nicking the FA Cup against Arsenal. However with the distraction that is the Europa League to worry about I genuinely don’t think they’ll survive the Premier League. Bruce isn’t the most dynamic manager and he seems to just get angry when things go wrong, rather than actually solving them.

Key Player: Tom Huddletone

Another person I doubted massively last year but he was so influential in that Hull side last year, despite his poor work rate at times. His passing was so impressive going forward and he looked in charge of organising a the midfield when on the back-foot, allowing Curtis Davies to keep his focus on the defensive line. If he plays well then they are a strong side, however I don’t think he can keep it up for 40+ games in a season.

Best feature: Solid, consistent team

They are a good squad of players and additions such as Long and Jelavic up front show they are trying to add quality, however things like this take time. I still think they will play dogged and simple football which usually means a team will end up scrapping around relegation. Will be very tough to beat when it all comes together.

Worst Feature: Europa League

  • I really don’t think the extra games will do them any favours. They don’t have a big enough squad or enough big players to deal with this many games in one season. The best thing that could happen is them getting knocked out early on in the league, if it drags on they could really struggle.

BW: “16th for me, but it’s clear to see a team that lack depth that is competing in both domestic and european matches will result in poor results across the board”
