Predicted Premier League: 11th

We’re nearly out of the bottom half of the Premier League, so who’s going to be our best of the bottom teams?

Team: Sunderland

Manager: Gus Poyet

When Poyet took over from Di Canio after only a few games last season, there was a lot of talk that there wan’t a hope for Sunderland staying in the league. In fact many thought Poyet was appointed to make sure they got straight back up to Premiership once they were relegated. To his credit he played good football and really got his team going, even getting them into the Carling Cup final.

Key Player: Adam Johnson

It must be so frustrating to be Johnson’s manger, because he is a world beater one week and the next he looks like he’s never walked onto a football pitch. There was a period of games at the beginning of the year where he looked like a Ballon d’Or contender and everything good about Sunderland was coming through him. If he can turn up for even half the games next season Sunderland could even make the top half.

Best feature: Good Football

Poyet did one thing extremely well and that was getting a team of average players playing good football. He favours technically able players and getting them all together in the way he has has paid dividends. I think they play some of the best football out of the lower teams, and that should serve them well in the coming season.

Worst Feature: Fragile

More from Arsenal News

Just like Adam Johnson, the rest of Sunderland seem to go to pieces when there’s things going wrong, and they go very quickly. If there was a team in this part of the table that I thought could throw away a decent position in 10 minutes it’s Sunderland. Other teams are resilient but Sunderland should benefit from their football more than the lack of resilience will hold them back.

PIA Writer’s opinions:

BW: “Gus Poyet is a great manager and after a year of grooming this team, he will lead Sunderland into some surprising results. 8th”
