Predicted Premier League: 3rd

After two articles that have caused City and Liverpool fans to brand this website as “the least intelligent site on the internet” and “obvious Arsenal-fan bias” I would like to point out that my family are all West Ham fans, and I put Spurs above Everton. Also, if you wait and see, I’m not just saying Arsenal will win.

Last season will be one to forget to United fans, and Van Gaal will do everything he can to replace it with more good memories

Team: Manchester United

Manager: Louis Van Gaal

The media have thoroughly enjoyed the arrival of the Dutch maestro, and he has also brought belief back to Old Trafford. Their pre-season performances, not results, have been impressive and in naming Rooney captain he is poised to bring the best out of the United man. I think Van Gaal could get United playing really good football and with them being out of the Champions League if he can get most of his big players starting 30-35 of the league games the former champions could shine.

Key Player: Wayne Rooney

Now with the captains armband there is added responsibility for the England striker. Without the UCL Rooney could well play all of United’s league games and as long as he doesn’t lose his head he could well end up scoring a lot of goals. Rooney has often proved doubters wrong, when in a United shirt anyway, and I think he could well lead United to a top 4 finish. With Mata, RVP and Herrera around him there could be no limit to the potential of United this season. However if they miss out again, they could see a lot of big players on the move.

Best feature: No European competition

Liverpool showed how much a European competition can drain your squad as they charged to the top of the Premier League lost out, but as soon as both City and Chelsea had fallen out of the UCL as well they were level. I think Chelsea lost out last season because they got further in the Champions League, and United will benefit because of that this season. I think United will view this as a year to attack and get back into the Champions League, and next year build the squad further.

Worst Feature: Weak members of the squad

More from EPL News

Whilst David Moyes was in part to blame for United’s poor season last year, there were some very poor people in the squad that he had to try and deal with last season. Cleverly, Anderson and Nani should all just be dumped somewhere, preferably on the continent, and replaced. They still have all these players getting near the team and it damages their image, as well as their ability to play. Quite simply they need to improve their squad before they are the United of old.

PIA Writer’s opinions:

BW: “Winning requires a great manager and a fresh team throughout the season, this team will be fresh without European games to distract them. 1st”

DB: “A year after United dropped from the highest competition in Europe, they will return. A title challenge is virtually out of the question. Van Gaal is a good manager, but the action so far in the transfer window has reeked of desperation. Shaw for £30 million, anyone? 4th”
