A battle for Champions League finishes?

In a battle between 2 teams that were the fourth and fifth best teams last year, this match will surely be a great one to witness! Arsenal has shown during the first week of the new season that there are still a lot of kinks it needs to work out. A match that may seem like a crucial game before the season started may be a bit more favourable towards Arsenal now that Ross Barkley is to miss a few weeks due to injury.  Here are some of the things we should look out for, and a prediction to finish up this preview.

Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain celebrate the final goal.

1) Dominating the midfield

Arsenal have not done very well at keeping possession and controlling the midfield in the first week. However, as the team plays more games together, hopefully the midfield will stop making silly mistakes and control the pace of the game like they did last year.  Alexis Sanchez has been playing well, but I’m far more impressed with how Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has performed. I hope Wenger gives him more opportunities and perhaps gives him a starting role in this game. Chamberlain has been outstanding, during his limited playing time, he has made great runs forward with and without the ball. His skill set definitely helps the midfield greatly and allow the Arsenal midfield to push higher up.

2) Who will replace Arteta

Mikel Arteta is no Patrick Viera but he is the best holding midfielder Arsenal has, and although he may make mistakes, he definitely contributes a lot to this Arsenal squad. The obvious choice to replace Arteta in the squad is Mathieu Flamini, but that is definitely a downgrade. However, I don’t think the team will suffer defensively, Arteta will be sorely miss in the counter-attacking game. His ability to pick up the ball in Arsenal’s box and make the simple pass up to the attackers of the squad is crucial and I don;t think Flamini will do the job as well.

3) A Possible Cameo of the Germans

  • News around the internet world says that the German players of Arsenal may be included in the match day squad. That is good news but don’t be too excited just yet! As the heading states, if we see any of the three German Internationals play, it will most likely be for a brief cameo. Arsene Wenger knows this team is very deep and that there is no need to rush any of his players back into the squad. It is for the best if we all just wait patiently and not go crazy if they don’t play yet. There is still a lot of football to be played, rushing players back when they aren’t ready have shown Arsenal fans that the result is never positive!

    Prediction

I was ambitious when I thought Arsenal would win their last game in Turkey. This is a game that Arsenal can clearly win, but there are also a lot of things that can go wrong. I’m going to predict a boring tie but hope that Aaron Ramsey can make a difference late in the game like he did last week. Everton 1- 1 Arsenal
