Arsene Wenger Right to Think Arsenal Set in Striker Category
By Josh Sippie
With Olivier Giroud down and out until the new year and Arsene Wenger stating over and over again that Arsenal will not be acquiring a new striker, I thought it might be beneficial to attempt to look into Wenger’s logic for not needing another striker, especially in the long term.
Quite simply – he just doesn’t.
Arsene Wenger is not in the wrong for believing that Arsenal have the striker position sealed up
While I would in no way be opposed to seeing Falcao or Cavani suiting up at the Emirates, realistically, the solution is probably internal. Walcott is due back soon and Sanchez proved in his stunning display against Besiktas that he can be the front man. Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo may be young, but Wenger has a penchant for developing young talent to fit his mold.
So those are the current options, but what about the future?
Well, for one, Giroud is only 27, Sanchez and Walcott are 25, Campbell is 22 and Sanago is 21. And that’s just on the senior team.
Below that is the Academy. The Arsenal Academy has always been renowned for its star-player production, and we may have three more star strikers waiting in the ranks.
The first is Benik Afobe. At 21 years old, Afobe is on the brink of breaking into the senior squad. He’s making a strong case for himself so far during his loan spell at MK Dons, where he helped see the team through to the next stage of the Capital One Cup, ousting the heavily favorited Manchester United. While United wasn’t sporting their regular starters, they had 7 internationals and David de Gea in goal. That didn’t stop Afobe from putting two past the first-team keeper and putting United to bed, 4-0.
Then there is Chuba Akpom, 18 years of age. Akpom is another physical striker that just oozes with potential. His most recent feat was putting up a hat trick in Arsenal U-21’s victory at West Brom.

Lastly, there’s Austin Lipman, also 18 years old. Lipman boasts the capabilities to play as the front man or on the wings, with pace to kill for. He’s on lone at Boreham Wood and has put up 2 goals in just 4 appearances.
So there you have it. Arsene Wenger is clearly not in the wrong for believing that Arsenal have the striker position sealed up. That being said, a little Falcao in our lives wouldn’t hurt anybody.
