Barclays Premier League Predictions (Gameweek 3)
By Ryan Millar
After Gameweek 2 our rivals Tottenham sit joint top of the league with Chelsea, Swansea and Manchester City – the only teams with maximum points
Saturday’s games.
Burnley 0-2 Manchester United
Manchester United have had an absolutely dreadful start to the season under new boss Louis Van Gaal. They sit on 1 point after 2 games in the Premier League and are just off the back of an abysmal 4-0 loss to lower league side Mk Dons in the Capital One Cup 2nd round. However, they have brought in Angel Di Maria this week and I think that they will get their act together against Burnley in the early kick off on Saturday.
Manchester City 2-0 Stoke
Manchester City have arguably been the best team so far in the league. When you can bring a player like Kun Aguero off the bench then you know that the squad means business. I think City will comfortably breeze through this game, but Stoke know how to shut up shop so I think that once they realise they can’t get the points anymore they will just park the bus.
Newcastle 2-1 Crystal Palace.
Newcastle only have one point but have looked like a decent side thus far. Crystal Palace secured Neil Warnock as their new manager and will look to start on the right foot in Saturday’s game. I think Palace under Warnock will take time to gel so no points are likely in this game. Newcastle will get maximum points.
QPR 1-1 Sunderland
I can envisage this game not being the most exciting game to watch. QPR boss Harry Redknapp will be looking for his players to get their first point of the season and Sunderland will try and remain unbeaten after a point against Manchester United last week. I fancy Loic Remy to get on the scoresheet in this game, perhaps to try and lure in clubs to take him away from the Rangers.
Swansea 0-1 West Bromich Albion.
Swansea have maximum points from their 2 games so far but I feel they will come unstuck against an exciting West Brom team who have drawn both their games so far.West Brom traveled to Southampton last week and kept a clean sheet which is never an easy thing to do in Southampton’s own backyard. The baggies are looking good and I expect them to comfortably finish mid table this season.
West Ham 1-2 Southampton
Big Sam’s men take on the relatively new Southampton side at Upton Park on Saturday. West Ham won quite easily against Palace last week but were put out of the Capital One Cup midweek by Sheffield United on penalties and I think that bad form will continue on Saturday. I am a big fan of the way Southampton play and I think they have too much talent for West Ham to handle and will finish out on top.
Everton 1-1 Chelsea
In the late kick-off, Arsenal’s previous opponents continue with their tough games, this time against Chelsea. In my opinion Arsenal did excellently to gain a point on Saturday, as Goodison is one of the toughest places to go in the Premier League and is always a test for any side. Diego Costa is reportedly out for this game so Chelsea will not have the same firepower upfront and hence I think will not be able to gain maximum points.
Sunday’s games
Aston Villa 2-2 Hull
I’m going for a high scoring draw in this game as I feel that it will be end to end and very exciting to watch. Both sides can be dodgy at the back although they have not been so far this season. Villa defender Phillipe Senderos always has a mistake in him and looks shaky. If Villa can be sturdy at the back in this game then I expect them to win. That being said, I don’t think it will happen.
Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
Spurs were hilariously battered last season 5-0 in this fixture but I think that since then, their side has matured and strengthened and will give Liverpool a much much better game this time around. Erik Lamela has been one of the top players so far in the league and I think he will give Liverpools defence a right fright. Liverpool are fast paced and skilful, and I don’t think that the Spurs defence will be able to handle it.
Leicester 0-3 Arsenal
In the last game of the week, Arsenal fresh off qualifying for the Champions league group stage and being drawn in a pretty tough group take on promoted Leicester. Confidence will be high after midweek, espeically in Alexis after bagging his first of many goals for the gunners. I fancy Alexis to score again in this game and send the Emirates faithful wild. Aaron Ramsey is back in the side after being suspended for the Champions League qualifier, and he will only make Arsenal stingier. I don’t think Leicester will be able to match Arsenal and will be overcome on Sunday.
