Jack Wilshere Promises Defensive Midfield Improvement
Whilst new Arsenal front man Danny Welbeck took most of the plaudits from England’s 2-0 victory over Switzerland due to his two goals for his country, but it was another Arsenal player that promised to build on that performance and press on with his midfield role: Jack Wilshere.
Aside from Danny Welbeck, there was another Arsenal player taking his chance in the England side
Wilshere had a decent game at the back of the midfield diamond for England, despite playing a more advanced role for Arsenal over the years. However he has pledged to improve his proficiency at the position if that is where Hodgson wants to carry on playing him.
In an interview with the FA website Jack Wilshere said:
‘I spoke with the manager and Gary Neville in the week and they told me they wanted me to play that role and I quite enjoyed it,’
‘It was my first time ever playing there, so over the next month or so I am going to look at a few videos of the game and of players who play in that position regularly – Pirlo, Mascherano and players like that and I’ll get better.
‘I felt it went well tonight but next time we meet up I feel it can only go better.’

Obviously Arsenal currently have players such as Flamini and Arteta who play in the more defensive roles in the team, so whilst Wilshere might not get get time in the team to perfect this role I genuinely think he would be more suited to a role further back on the pitch.
He has a good range of passing and with other players making the runs forward I feel he is exceptionally well equipped to start occupying this kind of role. With Ozil, Ramsey and Sanchez playing in front of him he could prove to be a key piece to both Arsenal and England’s push for success in the years to come.
