Danny Welbeck’s transfer to Arsenal has been incredibly polarizing. Some people love it, some people hate it, some people are demanding Arsene Wenger’s head on a silver platter and some are patting the old prof on the back.

Well, following Welbeck’s brace against a tough Swiss team, hopes were raised. Now, Louis van Gaal has faced the cameras to admit why he sold Welbeck in the first place and quite frankly, I find his logic laughable.

Louis van Gaal is acting the part of a spoiled child who just wants more and more toys.

“I have given all the players a chance to convince me of their qualities. Danny Welbeck was here when he was nine. He played here for three seasons after Sunderland, but he doesn’t have the record of Van Persie or Rooney and that is the standard. That is why we let him go, because of Falcao, but also the youngsters who can fit in.”

His goal-scoring record? Welbeck made the most of his limited opportunities. I feel like beating a dead horse in stating this stat again, but Danny Welbeck scored .64 goals per 90 minutes played last season while playing on the wing as a sub, more than both Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie who were starting at forward.

And no, of course he doesn’t have the proven record of two people that are five years older than him, that wouldn’t quite make sense, would it?

While Falcao is obviously a fantastic player, a lot of Manchester United’s fans are baffled by van Gaal’s signings and dismissals. In fact, I’d say he has been more widely criticized than Wenger.

I feel like these comments are kind of childish, if not uneducated. He’s acting the part of a spoiled child who just wants more and more toys.

Not only that, but Danny Welbeck is well-aware of his critics. He loved Manchester United, so it has to, for lack of a better phrase, “light a fire under his bum” to hear his childhood club’s new manager say something like this.

Welbeck is a good player. Numbers don’t lie. He is going to make more of a fool of van Gaal than the Dutchman is already making of himself.
