Arsene Wenger Must Sit Aaron Ramsey Against Southampton
By Josh Sippie
The 2013/14 season was absolutely dominated by Aaron Ramsey. Even despite missing several months due to injury, the whimsical Welshman was voted player of the year for Arsenal and put up 10 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League alone.
The majority of Arsenal’s success last year can be credited to Ramsey, who put in the winning goal in the FA Cup and was the catalyst of the team every time he touched the pitch.
We need to get Aaron Ramsey back into prime form and a day off would be the perfect remedy.
After getting off to a great start to this campaign, Ramsey’s form has dipped a bit of late, which is obviously a huge concern given what we know what he’s capable of. So why hasn’t Ramsey been that dominant force we’re so used to seeing?
The answer is simple: he’s just exhausted. Ramsey is known for his stamina but playing every single game will wear down anyone. He has started every game for Arsenal thus far and he’s rarely subbed off. I think Wenger was foolish to leave Ramsey on so long against Aston Villa. It was clear he was in some rough form and it was even more clear that he was exhausted, similar to the game against Borussia Dortmund.

Wenger cannot start Ramsey Tuesday against Southampton. He needs a break to rejuvenate. Obviously we’d miss his presence but Wenger has a stockpile of midfielders and a rested Wilshere, who’s brilliant form will prove not to be a step down at all from his Welsh counterpart. Also, with Ozil coming off what was probably his best game as a Gunner, he can control the game in the way Ramsey does, just like he did against Aston Villa.
It’s an easy fix, or at least it should be, and it shouldn’t be a concern either. We need to get Aaron Ramsey back into prime form and a day off would be the perfect remedy.
I never thought I’d say this but please Wenger, sit Ramsey!
