Danny Welbeck to Terrorize Chelsea’s John Terry, Gary Cahill?
By Josh Sippie
Danny Welbeck is coming off the greatest match of his career, as he tapped in his first ever treble to put down a Galatasaray team who found it in their best interest to only start three defenseman against a potent Arsenal attack.
According to Gary Neville (a former team mate of Welbeck) as reported by Goal.com, that means that Welbeck is now on the fast track to becoming the next Thierry Henry.
While this may be a bit early to be annointing him the next Arsenal legend (as our Chelsea counterparts are quick to point out), Neville may have himself a point.
He stated that John Terry and Gary Cahill were going to be plagued with nightmares at having to defend the strong, pacey play of the Arsenal front man.
No one doubts the pedigree of the likes of Terry and Cahill, but Welbeck has all the makings of a striker who can expose a defense.
To base it solely off his performance against Galatasaray is foolish, but his finishing was spot on in the match, and that’s been his biggest criticism throughout his career.
We can also turn to the Aston Villa match, however. Villa’s defense had been tops in the league before Welbeck led his cavalry into town.
The Villa match proved that Welbeck can dissect a quality Premier League defense. The Galatasaray match proved that he has the finishing ability and the all-important confidence he so desperately needed.

Welbeck has gone up against world class defenses for the English National team and wreaked havoc as well, so while Gary Neville may be a tad over-excited about the Galatasaray performance, he has plenty of backing from other matches.
But it’s not just up to Welbeck. Arsenal will field the likes of Alexis, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil, who proved to be more than capable of picking out Welbeck’s well-timed runs. The Chelsea center backs are not the quickest in the world (but then again, few center backs are ‘quick’), while the Arsenal attack is swamped with pace and passing.
I fully expect Welbeck to net at least one goal. His confidence is overwhelming and that extra burst of speed can get him around any defender.
