Cesc Fabregas: Arsenal Captain turned Chelsea Legend?
By Josh Sippie
The sight of Cesc Fabregas in Chelsea blue still makes me feel so sick. He was Captain Fantastic for Arsenal, moved onto Barcelona and was denied the chance to return to the club that built him in North London. In return, Jose Mourinho pulled the biggest “Na-na-na boo-boo” move that could ever have been imagined: signing our captain.
Fabregas was the guy who made me fall in love with Arsenal, and now I’m terrified of how he’ll be remembered when his career is over.
To make matters worse, Mourinho went out of his way to talk about how happy Fabregas was, how he had no regrets and how he “is Chelsea” and will be there for the long term.

It’s tough to admit, but Arsene Wenger probably did the right thing in not signing the Captain. He had bought Ozil to replace him, not wanting to wait around and hope that Fabregas eventually came back. Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere are on the rise and finding a spot to slot in Fabregas would hinder the development of our young, talented midfield.
But to see him go to Chelsea is near vomit-inducing. Fabregas was still (debatable now) one of my favorite players at Barcelona and I wished him all the success in the world, but now that he’s suiting up at Stamford Bridge, I have to revoke that wish.
My question is, when it’s all said and done for Fabregas, how will he be remembered? As a Gunner or as a Blue?
Fabregas spent eight years with Arsenal, three years as captain, made 212 appearances and scored 35 goals.
Obviously his tenure at Chelsea is still young, but he’s making a huge impact already and his contract is for five years. That gives him so much time to become as common at Stamford Bridge as he was at the Emirates.
And therein lies my concern. I will always see him as an Arsenal player, as Captain Fantastic, but I’m biased. Assuming he spends the remainder of his career at Chelsea, how will Cesc Fabregas be remembered?
