Arsenal Should Hijack Manchester United’s Arturo Vidal, Angel Ogbonna Move

facebooktwitterreddit

Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have long been on the sour side of transfer hijackings (Gonzalo Higuain) and having our players stolen from us (I’d rather not start that list). It would be quite satisfying to put the shoe on the other foot for once.

Rumors are swirling that Manchester United is going to spend 51 million pounds on a double move for the Juventus’ tandem of Arturo Vidal at defensive mid and Angel Ogbonna at center back.

If I’m not mistaken, those are the two positions that Arsenal need fixed. If I’m equally not mistaken, Arsenal can afford that.

I’m truly surprised at how little Arsenal have pursued Arturo Vidal. If Sami Khedira’s injury-prone dominance in midfield is highly sought after, why not Arturo Vidal’s? Vidal is bigger, stronger and more defensively inclined, plus he has better hair. And in terms of “who is injured less?” the answer is Vidal, who has made more appearances than Semi Khedira in the same amount of time.

Not only that, but Alexis Sanchez is on our team, and given the Chilean connection, surely both parties would find it beneficial to suit up for the same squad. Vidal would be a potential game changer.

Ogbonna is another player Arsenal could surely use. With our stock at center back running incredibly dry, Ogbonna could provide needed support and let all of Gunner nation breathe a sigh of relief that an injury to Per Mertesacker or Laurent Kocielny would not be the end of the world (though it’d be close).

Then there’s the added benefit of stealing them from under Louis van Gaal’s nose.

Arturo Vidal had been as close to a done deal as a deal can get without being a done deal (follow that?) before the deal fell through and he committed(-ish) to Juventus. So to heist him now would feel like full-on highway robbery, but for once Arsenal would be the perpetrator and not the victim.

Put on your highwayman outfit, Wenger (we know you have one buried away), let’s make this happen.
