Mesut Ozil Injury to Hasten Arsenal’s Move for Marco Reus?
By Josh Sippie
With the shock and uncertainty surrounding Mesut Ozil’s knee injury, Arsenal find themselves in a bit of a pickle yet again. Ozil won’t be able to return to training for three months, which, if we compare it to Theo Walcott’s timely return, means he won’t be able to return to actual game action until between mid 2015 and late 2017.
Marco Reus could be a solution.

Arsenal have been courting the young German for some time now, but so has half of the known world, so it won’t be easy. But there is one thing that Arsenal has over the rest of the clubs competing for his signiature, and that’s Arsene Wenger (strangely enough).
The Prof has the ability to lure nearly anyone to the Emirates, with both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez admitting that one of the main reasons they chose Arsenal over a competing Premier League club is because they wanted to learn from Wenger.
The chase for Reus has gotten more entertaining lately, with him holding off signing a new contract for Borussia Dortmund.
The main competition right now is Manchester City, who have asked Dortmund to be kept informed of any happenings with Reus, the Daily Mail reports. But Arsenal may be forced to swoop with Ozil down for the count.
The only thing that makes this transfer undesirable is that Reus is incredibly injury prone and he is injured right now. That makes him a Gunner at heart already, but it may not be the most pragmatic move if he can’t stay on the pitch.
Reus has a 20 million pound release clause that goes into effect this coming summer, and with Reus refusing to ink a new deal just yet, it’s becoming ever more likely that he’s going to move on. He’s even expressed his disgust in Dortmund’s recent transfer policies, as they’ve lost both Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to rival Bayern Munich.
The ball is in Arsene Wenger’s court, and we all know how much fun that is.
