Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Mats Hummels Could Actually Happen
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are not known to make too many big name signings, particularly in the January transfer window, but the latest rumor has a lot of factual backing that actually gives it some credence.
Mats Hummels to Arsenal.
Smiling yet? Well, don’t get too happy because we know how this kind of thing usually turns out.
That being said, there is a lot to suggest that Hummels will find his way to the Emirates. First of all, Arsenal are swamped with some prominent Germans, such as the lumbering Per Mertesacker and the German player of the year, Mesut Ozil. They would have a heavy influence on Hummels.

Not only that, but Hummels has said in an interview that he would welcome a move to a big club, with some stipulations:
“If a club with a bigger reputation than Dortmund were to make a move, but I don’t like the way they play football, I wouldn’t even consider a move.” He said. “At Dortmund, the style of play is exactly the way I want to play football.”
Conveniently enough, guess who plays very similar to Dortmund? Arsenal.
The one major detractor of this deal is the cost. It’s being said that Arsene Wenger has a 20 million pound budget for the January transfer window. Well, no one of Hummels quality is going to be bought for that, as his tag is set around 32 million (maybe we can convince them Podolski is worth the extra 12 million).
Obviously I’m in favor of this potential move. Everyone is. I normally put polls on my transfer rumors to see what people think but I think that’d be a bit futile.
Hummels would be a direct replacement for Mertesacker, who is indeed getting old. He’s very similar and they’re already good friends so the move has an insane number of perks.
I always doubt Arsenal transfer rumors. But there are a lot of links that make this deal believable.
