Let’s take a look at Arsenal’s Pregame to-do list against Sunderland:
- No Injury to Per Mertesacker – CHECK!
- No Injury to Alexis Sanchez – CHECK!
- No Injury to Kieran Gibbs – WHAMMY!
- Win the game – CHECK!
Kieran Gibbs has never made more than 28 starts in any English Premier League season. He’s a world class talent who had just reclaimed the starting roll for the England national team and was back in great form for his Arsenal squad.
And then all of a sudden we were plagued by the familiar sight of the talented left back hobbling off the field.
The injury is as of yet undisclosed and the severity is not known, but he picked up a hip injury fairly early on and struggled to run it off before giving way to Hector Bellerin in the 73rd minute.

If this is a serious injury, and it didn’t look good, Gibbs will join Kocielny and Debuchy on an extensive injury list that continues to remind Arsenal fans that Wenger didn’t do his job in the summer transfer window. Bellerin is now going to have to start at right back, with Mertesacker and Chambers in the middle and Monreal on the left.
And that’s quite simply all we have. We have no cover, aside from an inexperienced Isaac Hayden.
I fear for our match up against Burnley. After seeing Arsenal bumble their way to a 2-0 win against Sunderland and seeing Gibbs go down, each and every match is an unlikely affair.
