Arsenal Should Hijack Chelsea’s Transfer of Gerard Pique
By Josh Sippie
I have this obscene faschination of the prospect of Arsenal hijacking transfers from their rivals. I would still love to see the Gunners swoop in and nab Arturo Vidal from Manchester United, but this latest potential-hijacking would be of epic proportions.
Gerard Pique has been out of favor with Barcelona as of late, and anytime that happens, clubs start poking their noses in to see what they can gauge. As of right now, only Chelsea are rumored to be pursuing the dominant centerback, and they’re preparing a 25 million pound bid.
I, for one, would much rather see Pique come on over to the Emirates. First of all, Pique was a whisker away from becoming a Gunner when he was 15 years old, so it’s already known that he liked what he saw when he was nearing commitment.

Arsenal are already in pursuit of Mats Hummels (don’t even get me started on the prospect of having Hummels and Pique together), and Pique is said to cost about the same as Hummels, if not cheaper, so why not pursue each and take whichever offer looks best? At the very least, it’s our responsibility to make Chelsea’s path to Pique all the more difficult.
In all likelihood, Pique will stay. He’s been a permanent fixture for Barca and a few bad matches won’t see him off. He’s a world-class center back and no one doubts that. But just about anyone can be bought if the price is right.
Come on, Arsene! Think of the satisfaction when you wipe that smug grin off Jose Mourinho’s face!
