Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Romulo Transfer the Perfect Solution

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s very rare that I see a transfer rumor that I look and and think “Hm, that would be absolutely perfect.” But here we have one: Romulo.

The Brazilian midfielder has all the makings of the perfect signing. He’s still young at 24, he’s a holding midfielder with an excellent work rate. He would be the perfect Anchor for Arsenal’s midfield woes.

What else makes this perfect? He’s only going to cost 9.5 million pounds and we get to send the floundering Yaya Sanogo to Spartak Moscow on a season long loan. 9.5 million for a guy that is still projected to be a stellar midfielder is an outstanding asking price.

But why is he so cheap?

Glad you asked. He was plagued with an injury that kept him out for a season and a half.

Sounds kind of like Aaron Ramsey.

The good news about this is that it was a single injury and that he has recovered, so while it might be tempting to label him as “injury prone,” which is the last thing Arsenal needs, he really isn’t.

Romulo is known for his defensive abilities and he has that same ability that Ramsey and Jack Wilshere have, being able to push the attack from the back. Prior to the 2012 Olympic Games (and prior to his injury), the report on Oscar read as follows:

"[Romulo] will join up with Spartak Moscow after the Olympics but had he held on until afterwards he could well have earned a move to a bigger club. He cherishes the ball and rarely gives it away, making him crucial in linking the defence to the attack for Brazil. He supplies the balls for the next line of three to start creating but defensively he is also extremely competent. He tracks his runner well and judges his tackles with composure beyond his years. He is not scared to get forward and although he may go somewhat unseen for much of the game, his impact is crucial."

Sounds like Arsenal has a perfect match.
