Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Christoph Kramer An Excellent Fit
By Josh Sippie
I don’t know why this connection didn’t happen sooner. Christoph Kramer is only 23 years old, he featured for the World Cup champion German National Team and he’s incredibly disgruntled at his current club, Bayer Leverkusen. The price tag on him is only in the 12 million pound range, and this transfer prospect is just as appealing as adding Romulo.
Kramer has had a rough history with Leverkusen. They released him when he was 16 only to bring him back and send him out on loan for four consecutive seasons. He has not played a single minute for Leverkusen, and while he’s under contract until 2017, Kramer has made some pretty blatant comments about his football aspirations:
"“In general, being involved in the football business is often like modern human trafficking. But for me, a contract can say whatever it wants. If I don’t want to play somewhere next season, I won’t play there. In the end, I will still decide where I play.”"
Pretty self-explanatory to me. Kramer wants out. If Leverkusen ever wanted Kramer to be a force on their squad, they may have already ruined that opportunity given his negative stance towards his squad. That’s never conducive to a successful career at a club, and Arsenal would have no trouble getting Bayer to sell him.
Kramer started in the World Cup final against Argentina but suffered a concussion and was subbed out at half time. If he’s good enough for the best squad in the world, he’s good enough for Arsenal. Between him and Romulo, I don’t know which one is the better fit. Both are very similar players, both in size and style of play and if Arsenal can grab either one, we are in for a treat.
