Arsenal vs Manchester United Preview: Statement Game

Nowadays when I see Arsenal vs Manchester United come up on the schedule all I can remember is 6-1. That image gets me mad and excited for this fixture.

But things are now different inside the United camp. Instability and inconsistency has been the theme for United this year. But what we should all be excited for, or not for the die heart fans, is that this will be a showcase of two teams who play nothing that resembles defense. Like Arsenal, United has a lot of problems in the back and so I will be looking for a high scoring game.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-2 Man U

1) Who will stop Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck

This is one of the few reasons I think Arsenal will emerge victorious in the high scoring game. Alexis Sanchez has been on a tear and I doubt United has the answer for the amazing Chilean. However, the difference between the Arsenal attack and the United attack will have to be Danny Welbeck. Playing against the team that sold him a few months ago will hopefully motivate and drive a slightly injured Welbeck to play his best game for the Gunners. Welbeck’s pace will be very difficult for United to deal with and if Welbeck is motivated and fit, he might steal the show.

2) An Improving Jack Wilshere

It seems like every time I see Wilshere play for England, he is a different animal. Just a few days ago, Wilshere admitted to his interest in playing the holding midfield position that he played so well in during the international break. I have always seen Wilshere playing that role eventually at a loaded Arsenal midfield, and I hope Wenger will start playing him there. Wilshere has shown he can make wonderful plays from deep in the midfield and if he makes some of those laser passes we saw a few days ago, Arsenal will be in a very good position to come away with the win.

3) Returning from Injury

As we move on towards the new year, Arsenal’s midfielders are starting to slowly come of the injury list. The player I’d love to see come back is our captain, Mikel Arteta, and he will hopefully bring some stability back into the midfield. Arteta isn’t the prettiest of players but he does his job well. When he is in the game, he organizes the midfield well and he doesn’t get too far forward, so let’s all hope he plays well and stays healthy.
