Podolski Growing Ever More Tired Of Arsenal Situation

So after a disappointing result at the weekend and another tough fixture in mid-week Arsenal have been dealt another blow to their chances of keeping Podolski at Arsenal as a squad player, with the German striker refusing to sit out his contract in the stands after an interview with German magazine Kicker.

Podolski has made only 8 appearances so far for Arsenal this season, with only one of these appearances lasting for the full 90 minutes. The German had been linked with Spurs in reports earlier this week, but he rubbished these by claiming that would be the last club he would ever consider joining now.

However his latest quotes came in a magazine interview, where he stated:

“I like London, I like the club, but I don’t like the situation. I’m not some clown who can sit out his contract on the stands.”

Seems quite decisive.

Podolski has proven time and time again that he can perform for Arsenal when given the chance but I think he suffers because of Wenger’s insistence on only having one ‘striker’ on the pitch at any time and relying on 3 attacking midfielders. Podolski is most certainly a striker but does not do particularly well when acting as a lone wolf. His goalscoring record at every club is solid, managing 47 goals in 121 appearances for Germany and 19 in 57 for Arsenal. Considering how many of them would have been less than 90 minutes it is a good record and if I were him I would demand more time on the pitch or ask to leave.

Podolski has also been pushed by Germany manager Low as he  tried to get the German striker back to full form, and it has become something of a saga now with it trundling over the last few transfer windows. It will be sad to see him go, but if he’s not playing then it’s not fair on a player as good as him.
