Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund Post-Match: Gunner’s Come Through!

facebooktwitterreddit

What a sight for sore eyes. Arsenal needed a win in the worst kind of way and they got one of the most convincing games we’ve seen all year. You can say all you want that Borussia Dortmund didn’t really want the game or whatnot, but they were invested in it and they had their sights on winning.

However, when the young Yaya Sanogo notches his first goal since ever in the second minute, it can set you back pretty quick.

Arsenal controlled the ball against one of the best possession teams in the world. Mikel Arteta and Ramsey combined well in midfield prior to another hamstring injury for our captain. Yaya Sanogo also had to leave early with a hamstring injury.

The injuries are about all you can say negatively about the Gunner’s performance. Alexis and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are really starting to form a potent duo. They absolutely terrorized the flanks and pressed the issue throughout the entire match. Ox should have earned himself a goal to go along with Alexis’s terrific bender that put the Gunner’s up 2-0.

It was a clearly different Arsenal team. When they took that 2-0 lead, they had at least six guys behind the ball at all times, usually more. They were not going to let this lead slip away and they never really looked vulnerable. Emiliano Martinez looked awkward in spots but he made a couple good stops and looked pretty secure at the back.

This was a huge win for the Gunners, who now stand a chance at taking the group, depending on Dortmund’s next result. Either way, maybe, just maybe, this is a game to build off of.
