August 31/September 1, 2014 – Welbeck or Cavani?

With Arsenal in need of a striker and Arsene Wenger having a grand ol’ time in Rome, it was looking bleak for the Gunners. But Edinson Cavani was still out there and given the frustration that Cavani had at PSG, he seemed the most likely solution.

Except for one problem.

Wenger didn’t want to replace Olivier Giroud, he merely needed someone to tide the Gunner’s over until Giroud’s return. And Danny Welbeck, being half the cost, proved the more prudent solution. Especially given that Welbeck could (and would) be forced out wide with little repercussion, whereas Cavani would have to be played as a striker.
