More Transfer Rumours Raging Around Arsenal
Despite the confirmation of Arsenal signing centre-back Gabriel Paulista, there are still a large number of transfer rumours swirling around the club about potential additions to the squad; potentially looking at the front end of the team. The two big names that are being mentioned in the same breath are Karim Benzema and Moussa Sissoko, but are either likely?

Transfer Rumours surrounding Karim Benzema and Arsenal are pretty par for the course, and I don’t believe it’s physically possible for there to be a transfer window to go past without the striker being linked to us. It’s almost as if journalists believe the transfer is more likely than the clubs do, because it’s been mentioned again in the Telegraph.
The rumour holding the fort for the moment is that Benzema will be sold to Arsenal in an effort to fund their bid for Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, but it would surely be completely reliant on these players becoming available to Madrid before they would consider offloading the want-away striker; and I can’t see either Spurs or Liverpool wanting to sell mid-season with no time to purchase a replacement.
All in all I’m not sure how likely this is to happen and I don’t know if Wenger is likely to splash out in January for this kind of player, considering he already views his current striking options as good enough to produce enough goals to compete in the three remaining competitions. If he is right I don’t know, but I can put a lot of money on the fact I don’t believe Wenger will sign Benzema in January; maybe in the summer but it is too much of a potential risk right now.

Defensive midfielder Moussa Sissoko seemed a much more likely deal to happen, simply because of the lower price tag, the fact that Arsenal do still need a defensive midfielder all coupled with the fact the player professed his love for the club in an interview early in the month. Seems pretty slam dunk to me.
However it seems Arsenal’s inactivity regarding this transfer rumour has allowed Sissoko to reaffirm his commitment to his current contract at Newcastle, stating, “I have a four year contract with Newcastle so in my head I tell myself I am here until the end of that. They appreciate me here and everything is good.”
It also appears that despite the heavy rumour no formal bids have been made for the midfielder and he is not actively searching for a move, “Nobody has called me, my agent and I have not spoken to anyone. If I am lucky they (Arsenal and PSG) are interested in me. These are difficult things to refuse. I cannot say yes or no but it is an interest I would take into consideration.” So basically, I here for now but if a Champions League club comes along, how can I say no? Will Arsenal swoop before the end of the transfer window to keep him in the Premier League? Or will they leave signing a defensive midfielder until the summer?
