Gabriel is going to start for Per Mertesacker, even though Wenger didn’t really come out and say it. Mertesacker was abysmal and he’s been given rests fairly frequently this year, particularly in short layoff situations. Plus, Gabriel needs to get some more game time.

He was good when he suited up next to Laurent Kocielny last time aside from a few mental lapses and he’s only going to get better with time.
