Alexis Sanchez More Likely to Win Ballon D’Or than Mesut Ozil
By Josh Sippie
Mesut Ozil made the statement that he wanted to elevate his game to the point of taking the Ballon D’Or at some point during his tenure at Arsenal (via ESPN FC). While the Ballon D’Or is normally reserved for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Ozil believes that he has the talents to be the greatest player in the world.

But how can Mesut Ozil win the Ballon D’Or for best player in the world when he may potentially not even be the best player on his team?
Alexis Sanchez may have a bit of a dull blade as of late, but his work ethic is second to none and he is undoubtedly a prolific goal scorer. It’s just a matter of finding his place on the team and not trying to do too much.
Alexis is getting noticed by just about everyone in the world of football and his praises are being sung to the extent that he darn well might bring home a Ballon D’Or – or at least the probability may exceed that of his German team mate.
The first bit of praise being heaped on Alexis Sanchez comes from his former Udinese team mate Antonio di Natale. The Italian striker said that Alexis is superior to Neymar, who is renowned as one of the best in the world (via IBT).
QPR fullback Mauricio Isla believes that Alexis Sanchez has all the capabilities to become the best in the world. He knows Alexis from their time together on the Chilean national team and that may make him the slightest bit biased, but it’s not everyday that international team mates advocate for their countrymen being the best in the world (via DailyMail).

The third bit of praise comes from Ivan Zamorano, who indicates that Alexis Sanchez is already a Chilean legend (via the Express).
Praise like this doesn’t come to just anyone. Alexis Sanchez is more than deserving of it. He really has every aspect of the game well within his grasp. He creates chances for himself and his team mates and converts chances as well. He tracks up and down the pitch tirelessly from start to finish, he defends incredibly well and when he is rarely caught in possession, he will do all within his power to get the ball back.
In summary, while Mesut Ozil is immensely talented and the sky is still the limit with him and the arsenal of weapons he has at Arsenal (see what I did there?), I think it’s Alexis Sanchez and his endless engine that has the true potential to be the best in the world. When you’ve mastered so many parts of the game and possess no real weaknesses, it’s just a matter of fine tuning, and Alexis has plenty of time to do that.
