5. Jackson Martinez

Jackson Martinez has been killing it in Portuguese football this year. In fact, in his three years at FC Porto, the Colombian striker has put up a massive 92 goals in 132 appearances. That’s a pretty good return. What’s sparked the most interest in the striker this year was his form in the Champions League, where he pushed his Portuguese club into the quarter finals.

As you can tell by the chart, Mr. Martinez put up quite the show (via Squawka.com)

It’s even being reported that “officials” at Arsenal are excited to complete the move (via caughtoffside).

So what’s the hang up?

Well, for one, he has nearly the exact same skill set (and age) as Olivier Giroud. If I know Arsene Wenger, I know he wants variety. Theo Walcott provides excellent variety. Jackson Martinez does not. Unless Wenger plans on dishing Giroud, which I find highly unlikely, then Jackson Martinez would serve no purpose.

Not only that, but at around 30 million pounds, it makes far more sense to get Karim Benzema, who provides variety, camaraderie and a heck of a lot more sense.

Jackson Martinez is a fine striker, but as far as how well he’d fit it at Arsenal, I’m left scratching my head.
