In the years leading up to 2014, Arsenal could not get their hands on a single trophy. The trophy cabinet at the Emirates remained bare, and it looked as though it would stay that way for a while. The success that the team had enjoyed in seasons past was something that fans could only look back on and reminisce about during the barren years.

But then came 2014, which brought an FA Cup and the Community Shield. 2015 saw Arsenal defend their title, a feat that was last accomplished by Chelsea. Suddenly, after many years with no accolades, the trophies were coming thick and fast.

Winning the two FA Cups has been great, but they have only temporarily satiated every Arsenal fan’s thirst for a trophy that they have waited so long for. Evidently, the FA Cup does not equal the Premier League when it comes to the expectation of supporters. The club should also have this mindset. They know that they have won three trophies in the space of two years. So this begs the question: Is this trio of cups a launching pad for a potential Premier League title next season?

It is quite possible, and for good reason. Teams that Arsene Wenger has fielded in recent years have been subject to a ton of criticism, most notably that they lacked a winning mentality. They have been accused of not having the strength of a true winning team, as they have faded time and time again in the Premier League’s run-in. But now that they have three trophies under their belt, this team can use their experience of knowing how to win in big games to challenge for the title right up until the end of the season. Without a doubt, this is something that could not be said of teams that Wenger has assembled in previous seasons.

Mentality aside, Arsenal is also going to have to learn how to be consistent in a league that is perpetually unpredictable. It may be easier said than done, but rest assured it can be done, as we have seen from Chelsea this season.

They must rid themselves of their inability to close out a game once they are on top. Their tendency to switch off once they have the lead must cease to exist if they want to lift their first Premier League trophy since the Invincibles last did it. The season is long, and Arsenal mustn’t be complacent if they want to be successful.

And of course there is the variable of what new signings will mean in bringing the Premier League title to North London. It is no coincidence that since the arrivals of two world-class players in Mesut Ozil and Alexis, Arsenal has won three titles. Signing a couple more players in key positions will only make the title challenge that much more real. Remember, it only took the signing of two outstanding players for the floodgates to open, so future arrivals at the Emirates should bolster our chances of having success in the league.

Even as some fans are still basking in the glory of having won back-to-back FA Cups, they are undeniably wondering if they will be celebrating a Premier League win this time next year. I know I am.
