Arsenal Transfer Rumor Round Up for July 2nd
By Josh Sippie
The opening day of the transfer window saw many deals completed and many breakthroughs made. Shaqiri is nearing a shock Stoke City move and Nathaniel Clyne has jumped over to Liverpool with more on the docket to follow him to Anfield. In short, it as been a very eventful opening to the transfer window.
Arsenal have obviously completed the move for Petr Cech, but few doubt that there is more to come. Here is a look at some of the most recent links circulating around the Emirates.

Sven Bender
Arsenal have supposedly been in contact with Sven Bender, according to the Metro, but the fact that he plays for Borussia Dortmund should be enough to ward you away from believing in this rumor too much. From Gundogan and Hummels to Reus and Grosskreutz, Arsenal always pick up links from Dortmund that never seem to work out.
That being said, Bender does play a position that Arsenal are supposedly in the market for and he plays it incredibly effectively so it does bear monitoring.
Lars Bender
That’s right, Arsenal are looking to host the Bender family reunion this summer as both Sven and Lars are rumored to be headed to Arsenal. Maybe they can wear the same number and baffle Arsene Wenger.
I buy into the Lars Bender move far more than the Sven one. Lars has been linked to Arsenal for longer and if you compare him to Sven, who many consider the superior of the Bender’s, he is pretty much on equal footing, according to Squawka. The Independent is vouching for this move as well, so this one carries more credence than that of his doppelganger.
Eduardo Vargas
The outcry for Vargas’ arrival at the Emirates is growing, but its hard to tell whose voice9s0 are raising the cry, Alexis Sanchez’s, Arsenal fans, or the media. Vargas has been linked to Arsenal before and nothing came of it, as he ended up going on loan to QPR, but with Napoli out of Champions League contention, Vargas seeking his fortunes at a more successful club makes a lot of sense.
My only concern is that he made very little impact at QPR. So while his international stock is incredibly high, his club stock has not risen much, if at all.

William Carvalho
With Arturo Vidal’s arrival still in major question and Morgan Schneiderlin supposedly signing with Manchester United (although that has time to fall through as well), the stock of Arsenal’s potential midfield reinforcement has been limited, and Carvalho and the Bender brothers are now some of the front runners.
Carvalho is valued at around 21 million pounds and if Arsenal was as close to signing him as it was reported last summer, than it is highly likely that negotiations are underway.
Faouzi Ghoulam
The Napoli left back is supposed to only fetch 9 million pounds and for an added option at left-back, I think he should be pretty high on Arsenal’s list. The Metro is reporting the link to Arsenal and while I would love to believe that a deal is underway, it is important to realize that Arsene Wenger still values Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs and he would not exactly go out of his way to overcrowd left back.
