Samir Nasri Would Not Be Welcome At Arsenal

Of all the hysterical and unbelievable rumors that have passed Arsenal’s way in the past half decade, from the Edinson Cavani’s to the Lionel Messi’s, perhaps one of the most hysterical and unbelievable came just over the weekend, with Samir Nasri reportedly asking to come back to Arsenal.

Players ditch their clubs all the time, but when Arsenal purchased Samir Nasri from Marseille in 2008 for just 11 million pounds, it seemed like another brilliant youngster signing by Arsene Wenger. While the goals were hard to come by, the midfielder was instrumental to Arsenal’s successes and in 2010-11, he did net 15 goals in one, if not his best, season since he became a professional footballer.

And then, just like that, Samir Nasri jumped ship and went to Manchester City for 25 million pounds, burning a ton of bridges on his way out.

“Arsenal have good fans but not that passionate since they moved from Highbury. City fans are really passionate. When we played against City, the crowd was amazing. That’s what I want,” he said via BBC upon his departure. He went on: “Now I am finally a City player and that’s all I wanted since the start.”

Safe to say, calling Arsenal fans less passionate than City fans is not only untrue, but it is the number one way to ensure that you will never again be welcome at the Emirates.

But that is not the only reason why he would not be welcome. Since joining Manchester City, Samir Nasri has not been at all as prolific as he was for Arsenal. Given that City take a Real Madrid approach, buying anyone with a pulse that can kick the ball hard, Nasri is not always the first choice and aside from a good 2013-14 season, he has been fairly anticlimactic.

With Manchester City set to ‘freshen up’ their midfield this summer, Nasri, who is now 28-years old, may find himself on the back foot yet again when trying to widdle his way into the baby blue starting XI.

While Samir Nasri has denied asking Wenger to rejoin Arsenal (and being rejected), that kind of question would be the kind of thing that you would want to hide, and I could see Samir Nasri hiding it out of embarrassment.

“Never asked anyone to comeback!! Really happy where i am right now so stop with your silly story,” Nasri tweeted (via BBC).

Do we believe him? I choose not to. Arsenal are rising and they have a solid base to keep this success going for years. Manchester City are dependent upon which players gel with their system and which players leave in the summer. Which is the more stable situation?

If Nasri had stayed at Arsenal, he could have locked down a midfield spot and been an Arsenal great, but he took the money and ditched the club because they were in a tough time (while still qualifying for the UEFA Champions League…. every single year). Lesson learned.

Sorry Samir, but you are stranded at Manchester City.
